Back from the ashes, or the ditch in this case. I'm sorry to keep everyone waiting, I have been incredibly busy with school and other engagements (like making money and family). I have compiled a website of selected images from my call for submissions, as you saw. I would like to add everyone's web address to their section (if you have one). Let me know what you think.

Problems have occured and sucked up some of the time I wanted to spend on the show. I spent a chunk of my time migrating this site to a new hosting server. My prior hosting company became very unreliable due to hackers (or that is what they told me). Sorry for the delay folks, everything is back to normal.

The dead eagle has landed.

I spent some of my time at the SGC Conference promoting the show. The deadline is up and as far as I am concerned, any late entries at this point had better be jaw dropping. I will be going through the submissions this week and getting back to the selected artists about what's next.

Here is what I will be doing with the submitted materials next: Promotional materials. I will be assembling a packet with a CD of images and a proposal to send to prospective venues. A few of you also mentioned that there were places you had in mind as well. Let me know, I will send out a packet. That's the next phase. Once we have a venue, we will need to talk postcards and catalogs... assuming this all goes as well as I am hoping it will.

I will also assemble a web gallery here so you can see what I have received. Maybe we will gain some publicity through this site.

The majority of the work i have received is great, I am impressed with what people are doing with dead critters.

With just 6 days until the deadline I want to thank those of you that have submitted work and to those of you that have contacted me but not submitted.... what's the hold up? All in all we have some interesting stuff coming sown the pipe. People from all locations and levels are feeling the roadkill vibes. I encourage you to send cds however if you email me images, please keep them down to a reasonable size. If you have sent me web links please select images to send me and include dimensions and medium info.

I am planning on one final push for work when I attend the Southern Graphics Conference in Kansas City later this March. I am guessing we can get some printmakers on deck. Most of the work I have received thus far is photographic.

I am excited that some of you have express and interest in helping with promotion / extra venues / etc. Let's keep talking and see where else this can go.

So Please, if you haven't yet - send me images and info. (title, dimensions, medium, contact info, date) No more than 5 images, 800 x 600 pixels at 72 dpi minimum.

So my submission deadline is just a month away, so far we have 6 - 8 people locally and 2 people from out there in the bigger world (ie: outside Madison, WI) I am just waiting to see what is submitted. I am excited and I bet you can feel the excitement through the internets as you read this.

Once I have a tally of work, I can tell you more about how this will all work. My hope is that after we show this work locally I can submit it to places further flung. I will take the images of the accepted works and promote this show further.

So far as publicity goes, we will most likely need some post cards. I am hoping there will be willing parties to chip in on some of the expenses. I will take care of press releases and such, unless there is a willing candidate that likes that sort of work.

Thanks to all you early responders out there... You have been enthusiastic and now I am even more excited about the prospect of this moving toward reality.

To clear up some confusion, yes things that are dead are fair game, a motor vehicle being involved is a helpful prerequisite. Decapitation by cat is also acceptable, or decapitated cats for that matter. By all means, feel free to stretch the definition a bit. I am merely giving you a creative theme to respond creatively to.

------

So, after some discussion with classmates during the fall semester, I decided it was time to take a chance and pull together a group show. Not just any group show, a roadkill themed show. A show that elevates roadkill to a different level while lowering art to a different level (preferably ground level). All work should be about roadkill. If at all possible do not make more roadkill just to enter this show. Also, if submitting real animal parts, make sure that any carcass matter is preserved and not offensive to the olfactory senses of the general public (I would assume that is a given but there it is just in case).

I myself photograph roadkill on a fairly regular basis. I discovered that there are also other individuals that share this love. Although I have a bias for photo, I would like to see how painters, drawers, printmakers, sculptors, videographers, etc. This is a call for entries as well as a call for interest. If you have work you want to submit, great. I am starting at the ground floor with all this.

I would like all wall hung work to be framed and or in it's finished state, display is key. 3d and video work will be considered... but the problem here is venue (which I have not figured out yet.) So I will emphasize submitting more traditional display. I am leaning towards work that will hang easily (wired frames).

This will be my first time taking a curatorial role. My main concern is finding interested artists... then once we have a selection of work, we will find a space (or spaces) that fits our needs. Anyone interested in further involvement (promotion, installation etc.) give me a shout too - It would help to have a crack squad of people to get all the loose ends tied up.

Submissions should be on CD, with an included slide list (with filename, dimensions, medium, date, title) Label the files however you want, but make sure the slide list denotes the filename. Images should be at least 800 x 600 pixels at 72 dpi (but please keep file sizes under 4 megs a piece). Label your cd with you name. You slide list should include contact information, and a brief statement if you want. Please, no more than 5 images per person.

Selected entrants will be expected to help fund promotion (postcards) and bring food to the opening (please no roadkill dishes).

Deadline - March 15th, 2007

Submissions can be made to my mailbox on the 6th floor of Humanities or by sending them to me:
